Roddy Banks Makes A Valuable New Deposit!

US rapper Roddy Banks is a real hot prospect – and his latest single “4 Racks 10 Racks” is a bit of a banger, taken from his superb EP “X&O’s”.

Recognised by his peers across the pond as ‘one to watch’, Roddy has opened for Waka Flocka Flame, Kid Ink, Kirko Bangz and the unforgettable experience to perform with Ludacris and B.o.B.

North Dakota-based Roddy released M.O.A.Y.N. (Mind of a Young Ni**a) in 2017. Marked by strong, bold rhymes,  the young rapper was born Rolland Elendu, with a combination of Nigerian, Togolese and American heritage. He got his stage name from fellow artist Big Reeno.

He began writing lyrics at the age of 10. He says: “Vibes, energy and life give me the urge to create, but when I need that force, that push, I do it to relate, to talk to people through music, to paint a picture with words in the background of what’s going through our minds.”

A serious rap artist with much to say, the new single was a project born of, and designed to be, fun, and was created in a heartbeat. “4 Racks 10 Racks was one of the quickest for me to make. I literally went into the studio with my then producer Cody, and he was playing a bunch of different beats he had.

“The second he played the 4 Racks 10 Racks beat, I immediately started hearing the hook in my head and just started rapping it out loud, looked over to him and my Tour DJ (DJ Rash) and they were both smiling and head bobbing. Like I already recorded the song, and so I knew right away it had to be on the album.

“I didn’t have all the wordings (sic) at the time and so I’d just hum the parts that didn’t have any words, and recorded the melody on my phone. A couple days later, I went back to the studio and recorded the entire hook and half of the first verse, and then later finished the song with a different engineer (Casey), who ended up recording the entire album.

“There was no extraordinary inspiration behind it. I wanted to create something fun, light, and not so serious; that everyone could listen and jam to on the weekends, in their cars or in the clubs…That’s why I made 4 Racks 10 Racks.”

Away from music, Roddy is an artist – drawing and painting – and digs playing/watching basketball.

See what you think…The uber-impressive six track EP (and the latest single) are out now on all digital platforms. “Real Life” and “Count It Up” from the EP are essential listens.
