Over to Ms. Brown for the background to the song she wrote….

“Jealous Talk’ is a commentary on online culture, where the artist can edit how they are perceived. In a world where we are constantly told as an artists, that our online presence is essential – almost as much as the art itself – we are forced to make ourselves into content.

“We can make ourselves whoever we want. We can create hype around our music by just projecting how big we want people to believe we are.

“The reality could be, only a handful of people show up to the gig, or when people listen to your song on Spotify, they don’t know who they are listening to; they are not engaged with the music and you receive less than a penny a play.

“To become successful we only project the successes, and not the natural failures that come with trying to get heard in an over-saturated space. At the same time, social media and online communities have empowered us with the ability to have direct contact with our audience, and to find resources independently.

“We can connect, express and make our music heard and our art seen, worldwide. We can decide how much of our reality is projected. Jealous talk is a song about remembering why you made your art in the first place.

“It’s about being vulnerable and real in a space where you have all the time to think about how you want people to perceive you”.
