The Magnettes Attract Attention

The Magnettes. They come from a land where the sun doesn’t shine in winter. It’s cold. It’s above the Arctic Circle.

There’s a minority language there that only about 50,000 people speak today, and was banned in Sweden until around 60 years ago.

The trio of Rebecka Digervall, Sanna Kalla and Tomas Backlund Thunestrom played an acclaimed headline show in London last month (Feb) at the trendy 229 Club, and now drop new single, “Kim N Kanye” via Digsin.

The track features uber-talented New York rapper Young Ash, aka Ashley Bautista who adds great value indeed. She’s one to watch, for sure…)

Dubbed as Sweden’s most exciting pop export, the pop trio The Magnettes come from Paiala, a sleepy town that’s home to just 2,000 people, located 10 hours from Stockholm.

Their energetic electro-pop delivers a stimulating new single in “Kim N Kanye”, which the band say is about going out on a Saturday night with your best friend, being “broke as shit”, but playing with the rich kids, feeling like you own the world when you’re together.

They’ve released four critically acclaimed singles: “Bones”, “Killers in a Ghost Town”, “Hollywood” and “Sad Girls Club”, and debut album “Ugly Youth”. The single “Young and Wild” was a radio hit across Sweden.

They were the main subjects of Hans-Erik Therus’s documentary ”Pajala State Of Mind”, which featured in the Gothenburg Film Festival, the Tempo Documentary Festival in Stockholm and on Swedish national television.

The director was so fascinated by the band that he’s embarked on a fly on the wall sequel, documenting where they were at three years later. Sanna also had the main role in the TV series “Bastubaletten” in 2018.

Last year The Magnettes performed headline shows across Europe, North-America and Asia, and they also opened up for Ke$ha. They played at the equivalent to the Grammy awards in Asia  – filmed on the red carpet in front of 5.1 billion viewers.

This year they embark on a European tour taking in Germany, Austria, Poland and Czech Republic, and then India in April before making a return to the UK’s Great Escape Festival in May, followed by a Canadian tour.

Founder band members Rebecka and Sanna met at school when they were both just six-years-old. Later joined by producer Tomas.
